Accessibility Tech & Custom Devices

Built around the person, not the catalogue

Quoted per project

Sometimes the thing that would make life easier doesn't exist in a shop. We design and build custom devices and adaptive setups for people with disability — communication devices, big-button controllers, display glasses, doorbells you can see and feel rather than hear — using the same bench, parts and know-how behind every other job here. Tell us what's hard, and we'll work out what would help.

Things We've Built

A handful of the ones we remember best. There are plenty more, and some of the simplest to build turned out to make the biggest difference to the person using them. Every one started with someone explaining what wasn't working for them.

  • A silent doorbell for a Deaf customer — a video doorbell linked to tablets around the house, a vibrating wrist alert and flashing lights, so she knew someone was at the door and could see who it was
  • A gaming controller for a gamer in a wheelchair with very limited hand movement — big buttons he could hit easily, placed where he could reach them
  • Display glasses for a man with sight in only one eye, who'd been holding his phone right up to his face to read it — his phone's screen shown up close inside the glasses, which made looking around easier too
  • Communication devices — on-screen buttons that speak a word or phrase, or do something around the house, at a touch
  • Custom macro keyboards and button boxes — one press for a whole string of keys, sized and spaced for the hands using them

What's Possible Now

Most of those were built years ago, and the tools have come a long way since. That doorbell can now show a visitor's words on screen as text and answer them out loud from a row of preset buttons. A communication device can learn the person using it. Some of what we can put together:

  • Communication boards that learn — the words and phrases used most move to the front, with predictive text that gets better the more it's used
  • One screen to talk and to run the house — speak a phrase, switch the lights, open the door, change the channel
  • Display glasses and screen setups for low vision, showing a phone or computer up close and comfortably
  • Doorbell, phone and alarm alerts as light, vibration or on-screen text
  • Speech turned into live captions, and preset replies spoken aloud
  • Big-button and switch controls for computers, consoles, TVs and smart-home gear
  • Macro keyboards and one-touch shortcuts for everyday tasks
  • Voice control set up and tuned for the person using it
  • One-off adapters, mounts and cables nobody else sells

If You Can Imagine It, We Can Probably Build It

We build with AI alongside us now, writing the software, designing the screens and working through the problem, and it has changed what a small workshop can do. Work that used to take weeks or even months of development now comes together in days, sometimes the same or next day, which finally makes a one-off built for one person worth doing. These days the limit isn't the technology. It's imagination, yours or ours, and we've got plenty to spare.

How It Works

No catalogue and no fixed packages, just a conversation about who it's for and what gets in the way. A phone call is fine, or send the details through the form. If something already exists that does the job, we'll tell you that instead of building it.

  • You tell us the need: what's hard now, and what you'd like to be easier
  • We come up with a plan, with an accurate quote or a close estimate and the scope spelled out
  • You get it approved, with everything from us that the approval needs
  • We build it, all in one hit or in stages

It Keeps Getting Better

It doesn't all have to happen on day one. Plenty of these become an ongoing project. Once the first part is in and working, the person using it starts seeing what's possible, and the ideas start coming from both sides: a better button here, a new alert there, another part of the house brought in. Each step makes life a little easier or a little more comfortable. Technology should fit the person, not the other way round.

NDIS? No Problem

You don't need a registered provider to use us. Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants can choose any business they like, and we'll give you a written quote and an itemised tax invoice for your plan manager. (NDIA-managed plans are the one exception, as they can only pay registered providers.) We're happy to work alongside your OT or support coordinator, and support organisations, schools and care providers are just as welcome.

Anywhere in Australia

You don't have to live near the Redlands. Post your gear to us from anywhere in the country and we'll send it back finished, or we'll work out the build with you over the phone and send it out to you. Postage is quoted with the job.

Not sure if we can do it?

Ask anyway. We've said yes to stranger requests than yours.
