This page explains what we do with your information, both on this website and when you bring a device in to us. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than the usual wall of legal text.

The short version: we collect the minimum we need to do the job, we don't sell it to anybody, and we'd rather you asked us than wondered.

Who we are

Ed's PCs PTY LTD, trading as Ed's PCs, operating from Victoria Point and Alexandra Hills. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

When you use this website

The quote and enquiry form

If you send us an enquiry we collect your name, phone number, optionally your email address, which store you'd prefer, and whatever you tell us about the device and the fault. That goes to the relevant store's inbox so somebody can answer you.

We use it to respond to your enquiry and to keep a record of the job. We don't add you to a mailing list off the back of an enquiry.

Remembering your store

When you choose a store, we store that choice in a cookie on your device (edspcs_store, kept for six months) so the site shows you the right phone number and address next time. That's the only thing it records — no identifier, no tracking across other websites, and no way to tie it back to you personally. You can clear it any time through your browser, or by choosing a different store.

Asking Ed a question

The Ask Ed search currently runs entirely inside your browser — what you type isn't sent anywhere. If we later add AI-generated answers, the question you type would be sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a response, and we'll update this page and say so plainly before that happens.

What we don't do

  • We don't run advertising trackers or sell your data to anybody.
  • We don't require an account to use this site.
  • We don't ask for payment details on this website — there's no checkout.

When your device is in our workshop

This is the part that matters most, and the part most repair shops don't talk about.

Repairing a computer or a phone often means we can see what's on it. Our technicians access your data only where the job requires it — diagnosing a fault, backing up before a reload, recovering files you've asked us to recover. We don't browse through your files out of curiosity, and we don't copy anything we haven't been asked to.

Backups and data recovery

Where a job involves a backup or a data recovery, your files are copied to our secure server so they can be checked and restored. They're returned to your repaired or replacement device, or to storage you supply. Ask us at drop-off if you'd like your copy removed from our server once the job is finished, and we'll do it.

Passwords

Some jobs genuinely need your password — we'll tell you when that's the case, and why. We'd rather you changed it afterwards, and it's a sensible habit regardless of who worked on the machine.

Insurance claims

If your device is being assessed for an insurance claim, we share the assessment report with you, and with your insurer where you've asked us to. Where an underwritten device is replaced or paid out, it's held under a six-month quarantine at the insurer's requirement before release — your data drives can still be retrieved during that period at no cost.

Who else sees your information

We share information outside the business only where the job needs it:

  • Clean-room data recovery. Drives requiring lab work go to Payam Data Recovery in Brisbane. You're told before anything is sent.
  • Insurers. Only where you've asked us to provide a report for your claim.
  • Suppliers and manufacturers. Where a warranty claim or a part order requires it.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't pass it to advertisers.

Remote support sessions

Our Quick Support tool only allows a connection when you run it and read us a one-time password that changes every session. You can see everything we do on screen, and closing the window ends our access immediately. We can't reconnect afterwards without a fresh password from you.

How long we keep things

Job records and enquiries are kept for as long as we need them for warranty, accounting and tax purposes. Data backups taken as part of a job are removed on request — just ask.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. Ring the store or email us — contact details are below — and we'll sort it out. There's no charge and no form to fill in.

If you're unhappy

Talk to us first — most things are a misunderstanding and we'd like the chance to fix it. If you're not satisfied with how we've handled it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle information — adding AI answers, adding online ordering, or anything else that affects what we collect — we'll update this page and change the date at the top.

Questions about this page?

Ring the store and ask — we'd rather explain it than have you guess.
