Ed's PCs
Support

Downloads

The things we end up sending people links to every week. Everything here goes straight to the maker's own website — we don't host copies.

Ed's PCs Quick Support

Lets us connect to your computer over the internet and sort things out while you watch. Nothing to install, and access ends the moment you close the window.

Why we link out instead of hosting these

A copy of an installer sitting on our server stops getting security updates the day we upload it — and "helpful download sites" are one of the more common ways people end up with malware. Every link below goes to the software maker's own website, so you always get the current, properly signed file. If one ever looks wrong, tell us.

The essentials

Every computer that comes through our workshop gets these installed free, along with our Quick Support icon on the desktop — so you're never stuck unable to open a file, play a video, or reach us. If you're setting up a machine yourself, here's the same kit.

Antivirus & internet security

We recommend a well-known, quality antivirus — and never a free one. The old saying is true: if the product is free, you are the product. These are the four we sell and support. Licence keys are at the counter, sharply priced, and we'll install and set it up properly if you want us to.

Kaspersky

Best price guaranteed

Buy your licence at either store and we'll set it up on every device you own — laptop, desktop, phone, tablet — properly, while you wait.

In store only. Not available on online orders.

Which one is right for you?

The engine is the same in all three — the difference is what's bundled around it. Premium's headline extras are Kaspersky's own remote support and expert virus removal, which is precisely what we do here, in person, for people we can put a name to. That's why Plus is our pick for most people.

Turn off auto-renew. Seriously.

Every big software company — Microsoft, Adobe, Norton, even Kaspersky, and we love Kaspersky — sells the first year cheap and lets auto-renewal quietly drift to top dollar. A customer showed us an auto-renewal bill of $145 for one year on one device. Our counter price the same week: $149 for two years across three devices, or $169 for five. Buy the key outright, switch renewal off, and when it runs out, buy the next key at the sharp price too.

Microsoft Office

We sell Microsoft Office — genuine keys at the counter. Install and activation all happens on Microsoft's own site.

Drivers & manufacturer support

Straight to the maker's own support page. Have your model or serial number handy — it's usually on a sticker underneath a laptop or on the back of a desktop.

Type the brand and model — e.g. ASUS H110M-A or Dell Inspiron 15 — and we'll send you to the right support site with your model copied, ready to paste into their search box.

Windows tools

Microsoft's own utilities. Handy, and occasionally the thing that saves a machine.

Not sure which one you need?

Ring us and describe what you're trying to do. Two minutes on the phone beats half an hour of downloading the wrong thing — and it costs you nothing.
