Black screen? Check for a physical privacy shutter (lots of laptops have a tiny slider over the lens), then check another app isn't already using the camera — Teams and Zoom hold onto it in the background. If nothing at all happens when you press the button, the third one to check is Windows itself: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera overrides the browser completely. Grainy, purple, or refusing to focus? Bring It In — camera modules are replaceable.
