Mouse Test

Every button, the scroll wheel, and a check for the fault nobody can ever demonstrate on demand — a mouse that sends two clicks when you only pressed once. Drag a file and it copies. Click a link and it opens twice. This page catches it and gives you the number.

Double-click fault check

Click the pad below once at a time, twenty or thirty times, at a normal pace. Don't deliberately double-click. If the mouse is bouncing, it shows up here.

Shortest gap (ms)

Nothing registered yet. Give the pad twenty single clicks.

Anything under 80 ms wasn't your finger — a fast deliberate double-click is 120 ms or more.

Every button

Press each one inside the pad above — they light up here and stay ticked once they've worked at least once.

Press the side buttons inside the pad, not anywhere else. The Back button is suppressed in the pad so it can register here — press it anywhere else on the page and it does what it normally does, which is leave this page. If that happens, your browser's Forward button brings you straight back.

Scroll wheel

Roll the wheel over the strip below, both ways, then try tilting it sideways if yours does that. A wheel that jumps back one notch as you scroll down has a worn encoder — very common, very fixable.

Pointer drift

Press start, then take your hand off the mouse — it waits a second for you to let go before the five seconds begin. Don't touch the mouse or the desk while it counts. A sensor that's failing, or a hair across it, makes the pointer creep on its own, and the box beside it draws whatever it did.

Not started.

Drift, magnified 10×

Knocking the desk counts as movement, so if it fails, run it twice before believing it.
